    Standard Framework
  • William Ashley Music is the commercial frontend for William Ashley's commercial activities related to music. Handing dealings with William Ashley Music ensures registered business accounts are traceable and used on this side off all transactions.
  • William Ashley is the principal creator, rights holder, and self-publisher for rights holding and music registration purposes, with exceptions possible for officially contracted project work.
  • William Ashley Publishing is the officially registered publisher in Canada to handle format publishing in Canada; however, works are still self published under the name William Ashley for music publishing rights assignment purposes. This allows for publication of applicable format materials inside Canada with Canada's regulatory framework for publications and is a seperate consideration from music publishing aspects under music copyright law for music publishing rights assignment purposes. William Ashley Publishing is only relevant if William Ashley Publishing is the publication source of actual media content such as making available physical or digital assets for public use. A seperate Publishing webpage will explain this in more detail at some future point to clarify the difference between William Ashley (self-published rights assignment) and William Ashley Publishing (physical and digital media content)

All compositions, recordings, and intellectual property are administered directly or via SOCAN or regional partners, and official organizations for specific uses where applicable jurisdictionally.

  • No unauthorized agents
  • Limited Personal use only on shared files in accordance with carve outs for limited personal use outlined on the Legal page.
  • Third-party clearance requirements may apply unless you have obtained an exclusive license that requires exclusive licensing.

No one related to William Ashley should canvas the public or businesses with unsolicited work offers. Solicitations for project work licensing are done via the contact points on this webpage. Any formal commercial work will be engaged in via an official written agreement outlining the nature of the undertaking and terms that are set for it. Any money that exchanges hands will be invoiced following standard legal requirements for record keeping in Canada, and where required any other involved jurisdictions. You should never get random requests for payment to random payment services, while alternative payment methods can be arranged by clients generally all payments will be routed to a business banking account or its assoicated merchant services. This will be traceable directly to William Ashley Music as an operating business or when required to William Ashley. For international clients it may be possible to arrange for alternative merchant services. Everything is secure and registered. No one should be soliciting you and requesting sketchy payment methods. Agreements based on future considerations or interest in the project outputs may be applicable not direct fees. If the communication involves any transfer of money or commercial rights the situation will be handled as a business agreement via registered traceable business channels so the relationship is secure and transparent.
  • All licensing to third parties is handled directly by William Ashley Music if not managed by a PRO or neighbouring rights organization. If you have materials you would like to use that William Ashley has created or used in his materials such as samples, presets, loops etc.. notify via the licensing email provided how they are being used and credit the use. There are a few instances where William Ashley's content is available without listing credits, if you beleive you are dealing with something William Ashley was a contributor to do not hestitate to contact William Ashley Music for licensing or clearance purposes. Very old samples from 20 or so years ago have many unique agreement structures that will not be obvious at plain sight. If you encounter these older samples and use it is strongly advised to contact for specific information on any use restrictions or issues you may encounter using them without obtaining the full history of the samples especially for commercial purposes.
  • Project files (.flp, stems, samples, etc.) shared for educational purposes are for personal, non-commercial use only. Commercial use or redistribution requires explicit permission. Some works contain third-party licensed material that William Ashley has licensed but cannot provide redistribution or repurposing permission for. You will needed to obtian permission from them or secure a license from them for those source materials. Source information will be provided on request if possible. This is applicable when the scope of the license or clearance pertains to reuse of third party samples within the work as opposed to the work as a whole due to the scope of William Ashley's source license only allowing redistribution of the derivitives not the source materials. William Ashley makes both original works and samples; however some songs use third party licensed materials which allow for distribution of the songs created from those materials but does not grant rights to sublicense the 3rd party source materials. Each work needs to be considered seperately as the specific restrictions on licensing varies from song to song. 3rd party samples are not currently redistributed; however, you may encounter old FLP zip projects containing samples that could be under 3rd party license. It was not uncommon for older materials to use and redistribute royalty free samples within zipped loop projects as a common practice. Sharing zipped loop projects made opening the projects easier; however, this is likely done in a way that could be outside the spirit of library redistribution policy. Currently, William Ashley does not distribute zipped loop projects containing 3rd party samples, even royalty free ones unless there is a clear statement that redistribution of the samples is permissable. In case of projects uploaded to the FL Studio Forum, there is a general provisioning of Image-Line licensed samples being ok to upload to the forum however there is some ambiguity over the uploading to the forum and the EULA terms of Image-line. It is requested you do not redistribute any zipped loop projects outside their originating threads where possible, and do leave a notice that there is a post containing it somewhere else on the FL Studio Forum if it is reposted or a remix or other action is done on the FL Studio forum. The FL Studio forum is a special venue for distribution that is considered a private communications exchange not a public forum currently so this special use case is an exception to standard distribution. There is a degree of grey area operating but the gentleman's agreement principle that use is OK as long as it isn't commercial in nature, however full crediting, and attribution occurs so there is no attempt to claim the work as your own without referencing the other contributors. Likewise that if the work is commercial or in a licesning pipeline due regard be given for obtaining the proper licensing and clearances, and working out a splits agreement with all contributors. As soon as it leaves the FL Studio Forum, or starts to involve rights assignments it should move to a structured industry standard format. The bottomline is that use and reuse of those materials is intended to engage, promote and advance everyones interests in music, in a fair, enjoyable and equitable exchange. If you receive materials claiming to be from me with clearance from a third party, please verify directly with William Ashley Music before any public use, redistribution or publication; excepting where it is coming from an official PRO that SOCAN is affiliated with or is listed on this page. Proper attribution is appreciated when using William Ashley's materials under permissive or licensed terms.
