Don’t just listen to the music journal it. Write down what is notable what you liked about it, how it made you feel, and what elements stood out. I know I would wonder what the heck is in all those files and what shoud be done with them. Organization isn’t just clerical work, I can envision how in a Schools like Berklee you may explicitly be taught asset management and session organization for use as core mixing competencies. There are actually naming convents being used by various Studios and even professional bodies like the Academy of Arts and Sciences for their own productions. Naming conventions and folder structures that make every asset instantly findable which gets more and more refined to professional standards the higher up the chain you go. It may also directly feed into how much prep work will be required before you can hand that mateial off to someone else. The way you structure a project today determines what you can do with it five, ten, or twenty years from now. It may seem like a long way off and with AI fixing that may not be as invovled a process however to some extent it is still a consideration, even if not a great consideration moving into the future. However in thinking about today, doing it right today saves the trouble of fixing it tomorrow. So further that at each stage materials are not one-time deliverables but rather fixed asset in a catalog that may be remixed, licensed, adapted for spatial audio, or revisited for educational purposes. These are the deliverables artists / groups should focus on stems, composition notes, arrangements, automations. The other materials are indeed useful to have, however they may not even be what the next persons job entails working with. If they need to do someone elses job they may in fact just suggest the person needs to that job before sending it to them or discuss the additional work. The more people get tasked doing work they were not hired to do the more issues can arrise not only with the quality of outputs someone doesn’t specialize in, but with the time it takes to do the tasks someone doesn’t normally do. The point being that while having everything from every step may be useful for an executive producer having only the materials for the mixing engineer, or mastering engineer needs to do there work is required, and only providnig those materials in the proper format and labeling will streamline and faciltiate decision compression.

File naming should be descriptive and human-readable, and unique with each sample having its own artist or artist and trackname:

Playlist ≠ Audio File.
Projects contain edits, automation, fades, plugins, and arrangement decisions that don’t exist in your raw stem audio folder. The engineer may not have everything you have to work with. Exporting consolidated audio by bouncing stems allows materials to be used in other software other than FL Studio if required in professional circles it is still very common for Pro Tools or Logic to be a studio standard.

The correct EQ curve, the secret compressor ratio, the one vocal chain that professionals all share — which by the way are often presets in professional plugins. Experienced engineers know that mixing is not technical perfection on an analyzer it is knowing if the mix supports the song. Does it move the listener? Is the artist’s intention realized?
Gather up a bunch of engineers and they may not arrive at the same result, everyone like music composition you may have some of the same outputs though, and there may still be the same limits, but there is a lot of fuzzy space inbetween. Standards can definite the minimum expectations not the maximum deliverable. In the role of an executive producer you may ask does the mix serves the music and the artist’s vision, and does it provide the deliverable that the person comissioning the material, or the distribution points of the music accept. That’s why decision compression matters: the clearer your vision, the more likely the engineer’s choices will align with it. Because they are not only thinking about is this good enough for the artist, but they are asking, can this be delivered to the next stage, just providing a better product, but providing a product that passes the next goal posts.
